Frustration

That title amuses me because I was imagining Adam Sandler as Cajun Man saying it. Frustration . . . before summer vacation.

I heard back from my advisor today. He has read and sent my paper to rest of the committee and they are none too pleased. It appears as though if there aren't significant improvements (?) made to my paper before the end of the month, I will not earn a Pass this summer. I still present, but I have to wait and do an additional defense over the phone (why I can't do that initially is beyond me) and - even worse - I will have to pay for 3 more credits. In a way, I'm not surprised. I haven't heard a single positive comment regarding my paper until this time when he stated that the first 21 pages of my paper were readable. Unfortunately, he was using that to draw a distinction between that and the pages that came after.

I haven't opened the comments yet from the committee members. I am beginning to get extremely irritated by the process. It seems that in the end my paper will say exactly what they want it to say, with me drawing all the conclusions they choose to find in my research . . . basically they want to analyze the data and write the results themselves. They also did a significant amount of monkeying in the research itself. The end result of each subsequent edit has been less and less anything that I ever chose to do or care about at all and becomes more and more what they would have done and written had they been me. I wish they would just wrap it up for me and give me the piece of paper. I just want my raise . . . I couldn't give two craps about any of this academic ju-ju.

Kids are lazy and, as a result, stupid. If we continue to enable them, we will continute to have shitty schools. Bam. Give me my degree already.

I'm sorry . . . Truly . . . I have nothing smart-assed to say . . .

... thanks, Tim. I do. Kids are stupid, and as a result, lazy. What you wrote after that is correct, though.

And if you just want your "piece of paper," then just play the game that you KNOW you're supposed to play in order to make this process as easy as possible. It's probably the same thing you've been doing since middle school.

I believe in you.

No homo.
